10 on tuesday– hawaiian style.

Introducing….

Inspired by my Mrs. Ordonez herself (who will be doing a guest blog for me later this week!!!), 10 on Tuesday will be a new staple to the Sunscreen Required Blog. Expect to find 10 tips every week on various places, companies, events, etc. around the globe. This week’s theme continues to revolve around Hawaii!

So, in no particular order, here we go:

1.) Make sure you purchase noise reducing headphones for the flight to the islands and back. Who are we kidding? Even if you like kids, you still don’t want to hear them scream for 8+ hours straight! That also goes for the loud mouth in the back, too!

2.) Do play golf at Turtle Bay on the North Shore of Oahu.  While not the highest ranked golf course among the Hawaiian islands, Turtle Bay is a beautiful and fun alternative to the pricey Maui courses. The majestic hole # 17 will not only give you a run for your money when it comes to the wind, but once again prove the amazing benefits of vacation!

3.) Try the Ironman Swim course in Kona if you are able and willing. There is nothing quite like the feeling of a sea turtle flying past you in the open water. It makes you feel like a cast member in Finding Nemo!

4.) Take the flying leap off the cliffs of Waimea Bay. Just make sure you jump far enough away from the rocks. Ouch!

5.) Learn to surf. Surfing is kind of like golf—it’s a hell of a lot harder than it looks! Lahaina offers a lot of affordable options for classes in the bay. This means riding waves without being murdered by them!

6.) Visit the Lava Tubes in Hilo. To see the shear height and width of the lava and then to be able to walk through it as a now cool tunnel is astonishing.

7.) Don’t be afraid of the local farmers markets. Take Hilo for instance, the grouping of shanty-like tents often leads me to a feeling of apprehension. Shockingly enough, D and I ended up having some awesome Mexican Food and purchasing beautiful artwork there.

8.) Request an upgrade. Of course it depends on the time of year you are traveling, but always remember, EVERYTHING is negotiable. You may just end up in the Penthouse suite!

9.) Stop off for some Shrimp. Hit up the Shrimp Shack in Hauula for some outdoor edibles. Featured on the Food Network, this place is legit!

10.) For you adventurous types, sneak in before the guards arrive for a climb up the “Stairway to Heaven.” This 3900+ step trail takes you up the mountains in Oahu for an amazing view of the cities/shore below. Just be prepared to burn off some major calories!only half way up (3922 steps total)
