Yes that’s right—in celebration of Julia Child’s 99th birthday, D and I will be participating in National “Drink Wine With Dinner” day. As if that is so difficult.
Under normal circumstances you wouldn’t have to try very hard to get me to participate in this event and you especially won’t today! Seeing as our return trip to the Napa Valley is fast approaching (only a little over 2 weeks away!!), I am more than happy to indulge in some vino.
Yesterday D, my mom and I braved the heat and the rural roads and made a short trek south to Matagorda. My Uncle Rusty is a personal chef by trade and fisherman by nature and has been holed up in Matagorda for over a month. For Rusty, his past month has consisted of fishing his way around the surf, East and West Bays and the deep blue seas. I’m pretty sure if he could live by the sea, he would… maybe even on it! Lucky for us, he caught all kinds of fresh fish during his stint there and was happy to load us up with some delectable catches.
So tonight, my menu will be fresh barbecued Texas Gulf Redfish, basmati rice with lime and cilantro and an arugula salad with a bit of lime, tomatoes, jalapeño olive oil from St. Helena Olive Oil and sea salt. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. So, I’m thinking a white wine. Maybe even some Scarpetta Pinot Grigio… something cold to break up this string of 100° degree days we’ve had around here. Yet another reason I can’t wait to land in the San Francisco Bay area.
So, the big question is now– what will you be drinking with dinner this evening?
