I shiver just thinking about it.
Chicago. Barring being on a ski lift in the middle of January in Breckenridge, it’s definitely the coldest place on Earth. Well, at least the weekend I went it was.
*disclaimer* please excuse the crappy pictures on this post. My core temperature and thus my sanity were a priority over pictures.
Dan was scheduled to work in Chicago the week of his birthday for training. We figured it would be the perfect time to head up and explore the city for a short weekend. And then the snow came. And it didn’t stop… 8 inches to be exact.
And because I know you’re curious:
carrying on…
Hotel: Palomar Chicago
Beautiful Hotel, great location to river and Merchandise Mart, incredibly friendly staff, free wine happy hour in the lobby and dog friendly. When I mentioned in passing it was D’s birthday, they sent up a bottle of wine to the room!
Deep Dish Pizza: Lou Malnati’s
Crispy crust, fresh ingredients, friendly staff. It was AMAZING! We literally went twice in 24 hours because we couldn’t bare the thought of going to one of the other known options (Gino’s East or Giordanno’s) and it not be as good.
Shopping: Magnificent Mile
Michigan Avenue is full of shops, restaurants and great entertainment options! Just be sure to bring your credit card.
Saturday Night Live: Cheezborger, Cheezborger, Cheezborger.
As in The Billy Goat Tavern. Situated under a bridge in a semi-shady looking area, The SNL famed restaurant offered up cheap and easy refuge from the snow ridden streets. And don’t forget your double cheezborger. I’m told “it’s better”…. repeatedly.
Bottom line– Chicago is a great city to visit, IN THE FALL, SPRING or SUMMER.

And check back on Chelsea’s old post when she and the hubby went… in the warmer temperatures.
Thanks for including us in your trip to Chicago! Hope you can visit again when it’s warmer :)
I will most certainly come back! Your pizza was better than I could have ever dreamed! :)
